Welcome to the Glasbarium Institute

Institute for music and humanities

SINCE 2012

Glasbarium Institute exists for more than ten years, it was established first as a music agency, then eleven years later it also included research, courses and very special creative projects in its activities.

Glasbarium Institute was established in 2012 in Ljubljana (Slovenia) by an internationally active composer and musician Vasko Atanasovski, who still leads the company. For a long time, the institute worked mainly in the production of music events, concert tours and music albums, but in the last period it expanded its activities also in the direction of musical, humanistic and cultural research. The Glasbarium Institute thus included in its activities not only the conceptual and production organization of musical concerts and cycles in Slovenia and abroad, but also the conceptualization and organization of humanistic-theoretical and broader cultural events.

Since 2012 Glasbarium has produced many concert series of international music groups in Slovenia, mainly in jazz, classical and world-music. It has organised different concert tours all around the world (China, Argentina, EU, India…) and produced rich, vivid and highly inspirational musical albums and recordings, which were published world-wide by highly appreciated record labels like MoonJune Records in New York.

A TURNING POINT

Glasbarium also developed a large worldwide network of music professionals (producers, record studios, sound engineers, tour managers, booking agencies, record labels and publishers) and contacts with various music specialised journalists, magazines, televisions and other media platforms.

The year 2022 was a turning point for the institute, when Glasbarium has become the coordinator of the two-year international project Musicville – Green European Opera, supported by CE EU programme. This was precisely the time when new visions of the Glasbarium emerged from concrete insights into the institute’s capacity and ability to influence society with its creativity, ideation, well-organized and carefully thought-out management in a socially useful and responsible way.

NEW MISSION

In 2023, it changed its name to Glasbarium Institute. The Institute for Music and Humanities, which announced a new mission, clearly focused not only on production, but also on the field of research. Glasbarium welcomed a new member, philosopher Magdalena Germek, who together with musician Vasko Atanasovski laid the foundations of a highly profile interesting interdisciplinary collaboration: music and humanities. In a very short period, they designed a production, research and informal educational program that ambitiously addresses various problem areas (existential philosophy, and philosophy of thanatology, aesthetics, comparative epistemology, ecological awareness, scientific, cultural, natural and “difficult” heritage, solidarity actions) which demands the development of highly innovative inter- and transdisciplinary methodologies.

THE PRINCIPLES

In conclusion, we can say that the Glasbarium Institute is an institution that not only produces and records new music (the Slovenian word for music is “glasba”) but is also an oratory for supporting new voices (the Slovenian word for voice is “glas”), two main characteristics, which the Glasbarium label supports in its name. The principles of the Glasbarium Institute thus are established:

  1. Supreme creativity as a medium for expressing socially important messages.
  2. Unwavering and unhindered ideation as the orientation of creative cultural action.
  3. Economically rational but time-efficient production.
  4. Well-thought-out procedures of organization, integration, networking and management as the supreme modus operandi of business behaviour.
